Our best bet won yet again, as England romped to a win against Panama. Thats four from five so far in the second week of the tournament and we'll look to keep that going today. Our Kane Golden boot recommendation is also looking very strong, as is the early advised bet on Ronaldo.
Today we see Uruguay and Russia play off for top sport, while in Group B things are finely poised but should see Spain and Portugal progress (more on this in a moment).
In our Group Bets, we had Uruguay to top the group, so we'll be hoping they can defeat Russia today as a draw won't be enough. Our forecast of Uruguay / Egypt is already out of the running.
While in Group B, we are sitting on a Spain / Portugal forecast so wins or draws for both (as long as they match each other) will do us just fine. Or a Spain win and Portugal draw will also see the bet come in.
(Note: all recommended bets are 1 unit / point stake unless clearly stated. The daily ‘Best Bet' is our official recommended bet. Any other recommendations are provided as part of match by match analysis and are optional bets, and will not be included in our official results)
Day 12 – Best Bet
A draw is enough here for Spain to progress and I don't expect them to over exert in the match, particularly as they won't mind too much whether it is Russia or Uruguay that they meet in the next round.
Morocco will be feeling a little hard done by going into the game with the knowledge they will be going home no matter what. They lost the first game without conceding a shot on goal, and they really should have won the game themselves. The played really well against Portugal and deserved at least a goal – a combination of bad luck, poor finishing and resolute defending has seen them have 28 shots across their first two games without scoring.
I can see Spain winning this one but Morocco finally getting a goal to take home with them
Both Teams to Score at 2.20
Today's other games;
A draw is enough for Portugal to qualify but Iran won't make it easy for them and still harbour hopes themselves for qualifying. Portugal are also not exactly a side to go looking for a win unless they have to.
Iran were unlucky against Spain and could have snatched a draw but generally speaking they are a tight and defensive side, not set up to looking for a win. I feel they will try to be patient here and only look to start taking chances if the scores are level going into the final third of the game.
Egypt v Saudi Arabia
In hindsight, Egypts World Cup campaign came to an end before the tournament even started, when Salah picked up that injury in the Champions League final. They'll be bitterly disapointed to be going into this match without even a slim chance of qualifying.
That said, I'm sure they will want to try and end on a high with a win against a frankly terrible Saudi side. They will also be keen to pick up their first ever win at a World Cup, having gone D2 L4 so far, which is the longest run by any African side at a World Cup before picking up a win.
Russia v Uruguay
The play off for the winner of the group. Both sides will want to top the group for topping the group's sake and to maintain, particulary for the Russians, the good momentum and winning feeling. But not a lot actually rests on securing top spots with opponents likely to be Spain or Portugal.
Uruguay have done the bare minimum so far winning both games 1-0 and I'd expect another low scoring encounter here. We won't be having a specific bet in this match as we already have an interest in Uruguay topping the group but backing unders looks the safe play.
Under 2.5 goals at 1.53
