Analysis:

It feels like Mission Impossible for Man United this Wednesday, as they make the daunting trip to Paris looking to overturn a 2-0 deficit against an imperious PSG side.

The French champions have been in stellar form since their first meeting in Manchester. Five games played, five matches won, fourteen goals scored with just three conceded. This form is underlined by their home form for the entirety of this season. In twenty matches at the Parc des Princes, PSG has won eighteen, drawing one and losing once to Guingamp in a League Cup shocker; United don’t only have to win, they have to win by two goals.

Since Ole took the wheel before Christmas, United have won eight away matches back-to-back. An astonishing run has seen sides including Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham taste defeat at the hands of the Red Devils, with this pedigree a stark reminder of what they are capable of in France.

In terms of the tie as a whole, United’s backs are against the wall. PSG have scored in their last 43 matches – if PSG score on Wednesday, United need three away goals to advance into the quarterfinals.

A huge miss will be Paul Pogba in the heart of the visitor’s midfield. Andreas Pereira is expected to fill the void of the World Cup winner after a last-minute red card in the opening leg. The Brazilian shone against Southampton at the weekend and will arrive in Paris as one of the form players having scored and assisted in their 3-2 win.

Injuries are beginning to mount for Solskjaer, with a patched-up side expected to take the field at the Parc des Princes. It was a tough ask for their strongest eleven, but with Martial, Lingard, Mata, Herrera, Matic, Jones, Darmian and Sanchez all a doubt, their price of qualifying at 19.00 looks fair.

If United don’t score in the first half, this fixture will peter out into a drab game of keep-ball.
