Weekend Tip Sheet
The following are our best football betting tips from the selected fixtures in the English Premier League, The Championship and across Europes Major leagues, and League Cups covering matches taking place between the 8th and 10th March 2019.
UEFA Euro | Spain vs Norway
The Mestalla hosts this 2020 Euro Qualifying fixture on Saturday, with La Roja looking to attend their seventh consecutive European Championship next summer. Spain have won two of the last three editions of the tournament, but will be wary of the deepening threat of European outfits. Norway haven’t appeared since 2000 – their only Euro adventure – and their recent form suggests they could challenge. A successful Nations League campaign left spirits high in the Lovene camp. Spain are only missing Fabian Ruiz through injury, with Luis Enrique eager to put right the wrongs of the summer. Norway have enough to score against this evolving Spanish side.
Both teams to score @ 2.25
UEFA Euro | Italy vs Finland
This transitional period for the Azzurri will be put under the microscope in a winnable qualification group. After failing to reach the World Cup in Russia last year, Italy need to bounce back in the run up to the 2020 Euros, however, their lack of goals is weighting them down. They have failed to score more than one goal in their last eight internationals, with just two wins against the USA and Poland during this time. Finland’s form looks just as bleak, losing three of their last four fixtures. A win for either will put them on the front foot in a group consisting of Liechtenstein, Greece, Bosnia-Herz and Armenia. Goals will be hard to come by.
Under 2.5 goals @ 1.70
UEFA Euro | Sweden vs Romania
Sweden’s successful Nations League campaign sees them in good stead for a shot at reaching Euro 2020. Since then, the bright yellows have slipped to Finland and Iceland in friendlies; they’ve won their last two competitive matches however, and have fresh memories of a successful World Cup to lean back on. Coach Janne Andersson breathes calmness around this experienced side and it will be a shock if they can’t negate the challenge of the Romanians on home soil. Romania have had issues with withdrawals from their squad, with goal scoring options very limited. Sweden love a win to nil, and with a robust defence, backing this outcome on Saturday provides value.
Sweden to win and both teams not to score @ 2.60
UEFA Euro | Gibraltar vs Ireland
It’s Mick McCarthy’s first game in charge of the Republic of Ireland side, and arguably, he couldn’t have asked for much of an easier induction. Gibraltar’s last two outings ended in 6-2 and 4-0 drubbings at the hands of Armenia and Macedonia; ROI will fancy their chances at filling their boots on Saturday, taking an early lead in their qualification group. The visitors have been in fairly bleak form. They’ve scored once in their last five matches, winning just one in eleven; this fixture has come at the perfect time. With Georgia at home to follow, McCarthy will be expecting to be sat on six points by next Tuesday. It may be slow progress though, with Gibraltar digging in their heels.
Gibraltar +3 handicap @ 2.50
UEFA Euro | Wales vs Slovakia
With four wins, one draw and five defeats since taking charge of the Welsh national side, the jury is still out on whether Ryan Giggs is the right man for the job. Slovakia will play the role of tricky visitors on Sunday, but with just one win in their last five, a turnaround in form is due. Giggs will be hoping Gareth Bale will be fit for Sunday having missed out their 1-0 friendly win over Trinidad and Tobago. Wales looks an ambitious, yet fragile side under Giggs, with a dramatic fixture always around the corner. Sunday’s test against Slovakia may not be any different.
Over 2.5 goals @ 2.42
UEFA Euro | San Marino vs Scotland
A visit to San Marino is just what the doctor ordered for this Scotland side. A humiliating 3-0 thumping from Kazakhstan on Thursday underlined the problems that Alex McLeish’s side has, and with a group containing Belgium and Russia, their chances of qualification have already taken a huge hit. They’ve scored nine goals in their last five matches, so finding the net against the leaky San Marino should be more than achievable. The hosts are trying hard to shake off their label of whipping boys in Europe, however, they’ve lost their last 27 matches…
San Marino 0-5 Scotland @ 6.50
UEFA Euro Qualifiers | Netherlands vs Germany
Germany are where the Netherlands were a couple of years back. A complete rebuild amongst Die Mannschaft has seen the likes of Thomas Muller, Mats Hummels and Jerome Boateng phased out of the national squad, with Maximilian Eggestein, Niklas Stark and Lukas Klostermann’s inclusion bringing the average age of the squad down significantly. Their World Cup shambles was underlined by a troubled Nations League campaign – one in which they lost 3-0 away in Holland. The hosts are rebuilding well with just two losses in their previous fifteen outings. Wijnaldum and Babel are expected to support Memphis up front, with van Dijk heavily relied upon at the back.
Netherlands to win @ 2.40
UEFA Euro Qualifiers | Cyprus vs Belgium
This ‘Golden Generation’ of Belgian stars arguably have one more shot at glory at Euro 2020. They are well placed with a balanced squad consisting of depth to rival any nation in the world. After finishing third at the World Cup, Belgium have gone on to win three of their four Nations League fixtures, however, a 5-2 loss to Switzerland heavily emphasised their fragility in defence. Cyprus struggle when the quality is raised. Just one win in their last thirteen matches leaves them with restricted hope of escaping a competitive qualifying group. Belgium should take this at a canter.
Belgium -2 handicap @ 2.37
