Analysis:

Avoiding Man City in the semi-final draw has opened up a huge opportunity for both these sides on Sunday afternoon. Watford and Wolves lock horns for a place in May’s final, with both teams finely balanced on league form throughout the season.

Watford had an easier route to Wembley. Beating the likes of Newcastle, QPR and Crystal Palace have earned them the right for a chance to make their first FA Cup final since 1984; their second semi-final in four seasons punctuates the improvements the Hornets have made since their return to the Premier League.

Wolves’ FA Cup run has been nothing short of remarkable. Having only returned to the top flight this season, Nuno has crafted a well-balanced, exciting team that has the capabilities of sustaining a top ten finish in the Premier League for seasons to come. Wins over Liverpool, Bristol City and Man United defined their road to Wembley, with impressive performances against the top six in the league emphasizing their strengths.

A 2-0 away from for Watford against Wolves earlier in the season was fairly unexpected at the time. Watford made good use of the counter-attacking style of play more suited to Wolves, however, the Hornets know that Sunday will be a different test altogether. Jimenez is the man to watch for Wolves in the attack, with the Mexican international committing his future to the club this week. He has netted twelve goals this season, and along with Jota, Neves and Moutinho, they are the fundamental spine to how Nuno likes to set up his side.

There is a big contrast to the philosophy of both sides. Watford relies on robust movement in midfield, bullying attacks and clinical finishing, whereas Wolves prefer a possession-based style utilizing their effective wing-backs and technical midfield players.

Expect waves of success for both sides at Wembley on Sunday, however, a winner inside ninety minutes may not come. Picking a winner in ET/pens is a fools game, however, BTTS and 90+ minutes look sensible.
