European Football Betting Tips – 17th – 20th August, 2018
The following are betting tips for selected fixtures in Europe including Ligue 1, La Liga, Bundesliga and Serie A, covering matches taking place between the 17th and 20th August, 2018.
AC Milan vs Genoa (Serie A)
Milan have only lost to Genoa at home once in their last 16 visits, and so the odds are certainly stacked against the away side. Gennaro Gattuso knows a positive start is crucial for the Rossoneri, and with no Europa League qualifiers packing the schedule this time round, they should be well prepared for this one and will prevail.

Lazio vs Napoli (Serie A)
The standout game of the opening weekend sees last year’s runners up Napoli take on Lazio, with Carlo Ancelotti now the man tasked to lead them to success. A trip to the Stadio Olimpico isn’t ideal in his first game, but having bought well and kept the core together aside from Jorginho, they should have enough quality in their attacking trident to secure a win as they'll be ready to pick up from last season. Napoli won both fixtures 4-1 last year; a stark reminder in the gulf between the sides.

Draw – Napoli (HT/FT) @ 6.00 with Bet365 | Stake £10, return £60.00
Sampdoria vs Fiorentina (Serie A)
Only Juventus and Napoli picked up more points at home than Sampdoria last season, which is a major indication as to how strong they are at the Marassi. However, Fiorentina just missed out on Europe last season and they’ve taken big strides under Stefano Pioli. Back these two to cancel each other out in a cagey opening-weekend clash.
Draw in Sampdoria-Fiorentina @ 3.60 with Smarkets | Stake £10, return £36.00
Barcelona vs Alaves (La Liga)
Winning last year’s title by an unrivalled fourteen points, the Catalans romped to their 25th league title in style netting one shy of a century of goals in the process. It’s unsurprising that the reigning champions start the league as heavy favourites to regain their crown; a price of 1.75 shows limited value in a race between twenty teams. Alaves have finished ninth and fourteenth since their return to the top flight in 2016. Recent meetings have heavily favoured Barcelona, and with Alaves’ pre-season underwhelming, Abelardo will see his trip to the Camp Nou as a ‘free hit’.
Barcelona-Barcelona (HT/FT) @ 1.58 with Smarkets | Stake £10, return £15.80
Barcelona -2.5 in the Asian Handicap @ 1.93 with Smarkets | Stake £10, return £19.30
Real Madrid v Getafe (La Liga)
Life without Cristiano Ronaldo begins for Real Madrid with the visit of Getafe to the Bernabeu on the opening weekend of the new La Liga campaign. That wasn’t the only disruption that Los Blancos faced either, with Julen Lopetegui appointed as Zinedine Zidane’s successor. Given their recent history against Getafe though, they couldn’t have asked for a more favourable opening fixture, as the head-to-head would suggest that this has a home win written all over it. Real Madrid have won nine straight meetings between the two sides, scoring an impressive 32 goals. Getafe evidently have a hard time coping with their attack and we expect that pattern to continue with plenty of goals and a comfortable home win to kick-start the Lopetegui era.
Both teams not to score @ 1.87 with Bet Victor | Stake £10, return £18.70
Real Madrid -1.5 Asian handicap @ 1.69 with Smarkets | Stake £10, return £16.90
