Match Analysis
Tottenham vs Chelsea, Wembley Stadium
Sunday 24th November, Kick-off: 17:30
Key stats:
– Both teams have scored in five of the last six meetings
– Chelsea won this fixture 2-1 last season
– Over 2.5 goals in five out of the last six meetings
– Chelsea lead 68-52 in overall wins in this fixture
– Chelsea remain unbeaten in the league after opening twelve matches
– One point separates both sides before kick-off
Analysis:
This fixture has thrown up an array of results in the last few seasons, with Tottenham getting their first win at Stamford Bridge in 27 years last season. This fixture, at Wembley, will put two of the top four to the test as both sides look to keep tight on the heels of Man City and Liverpool who have begun to set the pace.
There is never any love lost when Spurs play Chelsea. Seen as one of the biggest derbys in the eyes of the fans, both teams will be well aware of the importance of picking up three points on Saturday evening.
Before the international break, Chelsea dropped some disappointing home points against a committed Everton side. Unable to break down the deep Toffee’s defence, Sarri will be worried that the Blues’ plan B continues to struggle when put under pressure. Chelsea have seldom had to revert to plan B this season. Trailing 2-1 to Man United, as well as the second half against Everton were examples of this, and when Chelsea revert from their possession-based football they tend to run out of ideas.
Morata’s return to form will be a huge boost for Chelsea. His physical presence will be vital against the robust Tottenham defence, whereas Hazard and Willian/Pedro will be tasked with getting in behind the pacey wing-backs.
Tottenham’s form has gone under the radar this season. The only side without a draw, their three losses to Watford, Liverpool and City are the only blotches on Pochettino’s copybook. Sitting in fourth having amassed 27 points, Spurs will be looking to break into the top three with three points against their rivals.
Marcos Alonso stole all three points for the visitors last season and with Chelsea’s love affair with Wembley looking to continue it looks smart money to lay the Spurs win. Both teams are likely to find the net as per the recent form, with a score draw the most likely ending.
