Match Analysis
Arsenal vs Tottenham, Emirates Stadium
Sunday 2nd December, Kick-off: 14:30
Key stats:
– Under 2.5 goals in last four meetings
– Away team hasn’t won this fixture in the league since 2014
– Arsenal with 65 league wins to Tottenham’s 52
– Tottenham are the only Premier League side not to draw a game this season
– Both teams have scored in 6 of the last 9, but not in the previous three
Analysis:
In the run up to Christmas it’s always important to start putting points on the board. These two North London rivals are under no illusions that their attention will be on making the top four this season, with City and Liverpool paving the way at the top of the league.
In a famously ill-tempered derby, Arsenal and Tottenham look the best matched they have in a few seasons. This hasn’t stopped a share in the spoils, however, with two wins apiece and three draws in their last seven meetings in all competitions.
Tottenham are on a real high. Beating Chelsea 3-1 at Wembley last weekend rolled nicely into a 1-0 win over Inter in the Champions League; two crucial three points in their quest for success this campaign. With Eriksen back to fitness and Kane, Alli, Son and the Danish midfielder all starting a game together for the first time in months, the Tottenham of last season look to be in full flow, with Poch continuing to work his magic.
Arsenal look solid under the leadership of Emery. They’ve wobbled slightly in recent weeks after a run of three league draws in a row, but springing back to life in their 2-1 win at Bournemouth really underlined the mettle the new boss has instilled in the Gunners.
This always tends to be a close fixture. There hasn’t been more than two goals between these two sides since Arsenal’s infamous 5-2 victory in 2012, with fine margins deciding each result.
Value doesn’t lie in picking a winner in this fixture, instead picking both teams to score. With pulses racing and tempers high, mistakes can be common in this type of fixture. If Arsenal are to lay down a marker on their new regime, they will go for the jugular against a Spurs side that have shown they can be beaten; saying this, Arsenal have still been leaking goals.
It’s bound to be close, so hedge your bets with under 2.5 goals and BTTS in separate bets.
