Match Analysis

Liverpool vs Leicester, Anfield

Wednesday 30th January, Kick-off: 20:00

Key stats:

– Liverpool have won the last three league meetings

– Both teams have scored in five of the last six

– Nine straight wins in all competitions for Liverpool at Anfield

– Liverpool have won all of their 16 fixtures against sides outside the top six

– Leicester have won more points away from home than at the King Power

– Six of their last seven away Premier League games have finished with under 2.5 goals

Analysis:

All eyes are on Liverpool in the Premier League currently, as we await a hurdle that Klopp and his men could potentially stumble over in their pursuit of the league crown. They lead City by just four points, and with fifteen matches still to be played there are plenty of twists and turns expected.

Leicester have produced some bizarre results this season. Wins over Chelsea, Man City and Everton have been caveated with some horrendous losses against unexpected opposition; now with just one win in their last five, the pressure is mounting on manager Claude Puel with pockets of the King Power faithful losing their patience with the dogmatic, defensive Frenchman.

Mo Salah’s return to form has slipped under the radar. He’s netted nine times in his previous eight outings and looks a good bet to pinch this year’s Golden Boot – especially now that Kane has suffered an injury setback. The Egyptian will be licking his lips against a side who have conceded eight goals in their last three matches.

Liverpool’s home form this season shouldn’t be ignored. Just one loss to Chelsea in the League Cup and a 0-0 draw with Man City have blemished their 100% record; notably, however, they have conceded four goals in their last 180 minutes at Anfield.

Leicester haven’t won away at Liverpool since 2000, with just one draw in 2015 bolstering their credentials. With the visitors’ shock performances running out, it could be a walk in the park for the Reds as they look for inspiration ahead of a testing February domestically and in the Champions League.

A heavy defeat could spell the end for Puel.
