Analysis:
Tuesday night turned into a disaster for Pep Guardiola, as his City side fell 2-1 to Newcastle in a frustrating night at St. James’ Park. The City machine looked out of ideas. To say it looked like they didn’t care enough wouldn’t be a fair point to raise; something just didn’t click after Aguero’s 25 second opener for the visitors and City are left with a bigger deficit to make up if they are to retain the title.
Pep seems happy with starting Sane, Sterling and Aguero, however, with further options at his disposal it’s a wonder why the Spaniard hasn’t rotated more thoroughly in attack. Bernado Silva has been one of City’s best players this season, however, the Portuguese midfielder has found himself on the bench in the last two matches.
Arsenal followed up their 3-1 FA Cup loss to United with a tight win over Cardiff in midweek. Aubameyang, once again, profited from the penalty spot, with Lacazette’s class on the ball proving priceless for Emery.
The fact that Arsenal have conceded more goals than Wolves, Watford, Leicester and Newcastle shouldn’t be ignored. They still have huge frailties at the back and will be tested to their fullest against an attack that has scored 29 goals in their last seven outings.
City won’t give up their hunt in pursuit of retaining the title just yet. Liverpool are a very emotional side, and City will know that any further slip ups could open the door for Pep to stroll through.
Arsenal will trouble the City defence, but away from home in these big matches they just can’t seem to keep a clean sheet. City should stroll to victory in the second half.
