Analysis:

England cantered to another victory on Friday night as they stuck five past a lacklustre Czech Rep. side. It’s a point that may become trite in time, but England’s decimation of weaker sides under Southgate shouldn’t go unnoticed. Plenty of times over the last decade, the Three Lions have struggled to negate the challenges of some of the also-rans of European football.

The pace was crucial for England on Friday, with the inclusion of Raheem Sterling, Jadon Sancho and Callum Hudson-Odoi causing endless problems for the visiting defence. Kane does what Kane does in his leading role, but the support play that England can now rely on is paying dividends. Once a side is stretched late in games, this pace becomes twice as dangerous; I think that late goals may become a theme of Southgate’s reign over this squad.

Montenegro isn’t favoured to escape this group comprising of Czech Rep., Bulgaria, Kosovo and England. They struggled in a weak Nations League, finishing behind Serbia and Romania, only mustering wins against Lithuania in the process.

Stefan Mugosa is the biggest threat for the hosts, and the 27-year-old underlined his worth on Friday as he sealed a draw for Montenegro in Bulgaria against the odds. He’s scored seven goals in his last ten appearances for club and country, with the South Korean K-League giving him crucial opportunities after struggling in Germany.

Eric Dier is expected to be missing from England’s side on Monday, opening the door for Declan Rice to make his first start. Ross Barkley also impressed at Wembley and may start in the heart of the midfield alongside Dele Alli.

England is continuing to deal with potential banana skins with real ease, and despite the hostile reception they will be greeted with inside the Podgorica City Stadium, expect another mature performance from this exciting side. The hosts will get limited chances.
