Analysis:

We go again. After Wednesday night’s thriller at the Etihad in the Champions League quarter-final, Tottenham visits Manchester again looking to inflict more damage on Pep Guardiola’s season.

A 4-3 win for City meant Tottenham progressed into the next round, with a last-minute Raheem Sterling goal reversed by VAR, sending the travelling Tottenham fans delirious. It was a match that defied any form of logic, with a gung-ho approach by both managers treating us to one of the best matches in recent memory.

So, Saturday early afternoon will be intriguing. Will we take off where we left these two teams, or will a more conservative approach be deployed by either Pep or Poch, as both look to strengthen their respective positions in the league.

City is looking to leap back to the top of the league having yo-yoed with Liverpool for the past few weeks. They have been dominant at the Etihad all season, with it easy to forget that they won their fixture against Tottenham on Wednesday, despite losing the tie.

Spurs are still trying to cling onto their Champions League spot, but with a semi-final against Ajax to plan for, it’s hard to imagine Pochettino placing the same importance on this league trip to the Etihad. Sissoko picked up a knock in the week adding to their injury woes, so a makeshift midfield will be expected once again for the visitors as they look to repeat the “impossible”.

There is an overriding feeling that this fixture won’t live up to that of Wednesday, or come even close. City will provide more stability at the back, without the need to chase the game from the first whistle, and with a deep squad to fall back on, it’s hard to see the hosts throwing away this opportunity for revenge.

Dare I say it: but it may be a comfortable afternoon for City.
