Liverpool vs Wolves

Anfield

Sunday 12th May

Kick-off: 15:00

Key stats:

– Wolves won 2-1 at home in their FA Cup meeting this season

– Liverpool with just one league defeat all season

– Liverpool have won their last eight Premier League matches

– Liverpool need to win and hope Man City drop points to Brighton in order to win the title

– Wolves guaranteed to finish seventh regardless of Sunday’s result

– Wolves won at Anfield in 2017, again in the FA Cup

Analysis:

Just when you think you’ve seen it all, Liverpool achieves the impossible, turning around a 3-0 deficit against Barcelona to put themselves 90 minutes away from a sixth European Cup. It’s arguably not been their priority this season, with the focus very much on the Premier League, however, Klopp has built a side capable of fighting on multiple fronts with a squad that can be relied on in the pressure-cooker of modern football.

It may be out of their hands coming into Sunday’s final day, but you can guarantee Anfield to be rocking in celebration of a fantastic season. They currently sit on 94 points – Man United have never won a Premier League title with more than 91 points, underlining the incredible season that the Redmen have managed.

Wolves have over-performed this season, reaching an FA Cup semi-final, finishing seventh and killing giants throughout the season. Nuno’s side dumped Liverpool out of the cup in January in a mature performance, with wins against Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal and Man United capping a memorable season back in the top flight.

With injuries mounting up for Liverpool, expect a slightly different eleven to what we have been accustomed to all season. Andy Robertson is expected to miss out at left-back following a tangle with Suarez on Tuesday; the Scot surely won’t be risked ahead of the Champions League final on June 1. Salah and Firmino should sit out again, with Origi and Shaqiri looking to build on the momentum of midweek.

Wolves are the spoilers in the league this season, and Nuno will relish the opportunity to be party-poopers once again. Liverpool’s destiny is in the hands of City at the Amex; emotional draining from a crazy week of football could see a flat performance from the hosts, as Wolves capitalise on any mistakes.
