The Championship – Betting Tips
The Championship Betting Tips – 17th – 20th August, 2018
The following are betting tips for selected fixtures in The Championship, covering matches taking place between the 17th and 20th August, 2018.
Birmingham City vs Swansea
These two haven’t met in league football since 2009. Since then, there have been two cup meetings resulting in a 2-1 and 3-1 win to both sides, however, there is very little in terms of recent form to go by. Instead, we have the two league openers for both sides; their stark contrast in performance leads to conclusions. The Swans look like they will take to the Championship waters with confidence and a certain ease, Birmingham – with a bleak transfer window behind them – look like drowning.

Ipswich Town vs Aston Villa
Villa have lifted the doom and gloom surrounding another year in the Championship by back-to-back 3-1 and 3-2 wins. Bruce will need to start relying on boring, scrappy wins if they are to gain promotion this year. Villa won both games against Ipswich last year with an aggregate of 6-0, back this trend to continue as the Villains put Ipswich to the sword. 1-0 or 2-0 to the away side looks profitable with the Tractor Boys lacking a real attacking presence.

Bet £10.00, return £70.00
Leeds United v Rotherham
Under Marcelo Bielsa, Leeds look like a force of old. Scoring seven goals in two outings, the Whites will take some stopping in front of goal; Rotherham aren’t the side to provide this resistance. The Millers shipped five goals at Brentford last weekend, with a similar battering expected in this Yorkshire derby. Leeds have won three of the last four against Rotherham, with two or three goals being scored in each match.

Bet £10.00, return £16.10
Preston North End vs Stoke City
Stoke were expected to spring back up to the top tier this season, however, one point from their opening two games has left Gary Rowett scratching his head. Preston have had a mundane start to the season with a 1-0 win and loss; hopes are high that they can knock on the door of the top six again. Ben Pearson looks like a gifted talent in the heart of the midfield and could hold the key to furthering Stoke’s problems. This looks likely to be low scoring.

Bet £10.00, return £34.00
Under 2.5 goals @ 1.73 with Betfair
Bet £10.00, return £17.30
West Brom v QPR
Steve McClaren’s QPR already look in trouble. The Hoops haven’t kicked on at all in the past few seasons and look in danger of spending a campaign looking over their shoulder. West Brom have won one, drawn one and lost one as they look to ‘boing boing’ back to the top tier. The Baggies are looking to make the Hawthorns their fortress this year after a shock home defeat to Bolton; Rangers don’t have the same ability to spring a surprise. QPR’s run of winning the last three fixtures against West Brom looks set to come to an end on Saturday afternoon.
West Brom to win @ 1.66 with Bet365
Bet £10.00, return £16.60
Under 2.5 goals @ 1.95 with Smarkets
Bet £10.00, return £19.50
