Match Analysis

Tottenham vs Liverpool, Wembley Stadium

Saturday 15th September, Kick-off: 12:30

Key stats:

– Both teams have scored in 5 of their last 6 meetings

– 4 draws in their last 7 meetings

– Liverpool one of three sides with a 100% record this season

– Nine goals in their two Premier League matches last season

– Harry Kane and Mohamed Salah scored in both fixtures last season

– 9 out of the last 13 have included over 2.5 goals

Analysis:

The biggest news from a Tottenham point of view is the fitness of Dele Alli. After pulling out of England’s friendly with Switzerland, the midfielder should be fit to face Liverpool on Saturday morning.

After losing to Watford a fortnight ago, questions are inevitably going to be asked of Tottenham’s backbone once again, along with their title winning credentials; Klopp’s Liverpool are primed to take advantage of a wounded side.

Liverpool, however, aren’t as physical as Watford and will use pace as their main artillery looking to stretch the Tottenham defence on the big pitch at Wembley.

This fixture has been littered with goals in the past few seasons, and with last year’s top two Premier League goalscorers set to do battle once again you’d be brave to back against either finding the back of the net once again.

Liverpool are on the verge of a torrid set of fixtures over the next few weeks, with Klopp’s new side strolling past lesser opposition in their first four victories; this is where we will be able to gauge a better understanding of the Reds title credentials. With both sides looking to press high at the start of this fixture, it could well burst into life quicker than expected.

The biggest change this season from last is the improvement in Liverpool’s defence. Whether Spurs can breach Alisson and van Dijk’s back line will inevitably determine how this fixture plays out.
