The following are betting tips for selected fixtures from week 1 of the Champions League, covering matches taking place between the 18th September and 19th September, 2018.
Liverpool v PSG
This will be an interesting test of Liverpool’s credentials in the 2018-19 season. PSG have made a flawless start to life in Ligue 1; five wins in five matches sets ups up their tie with Liverpool beautifully with both sides gaining a maximum 15 points in their respective leagues. PSG are expected to start in a 4-2-3-1 formation with Thomas Tuchel under pressure to deliver on the European stage. Their high press and speed on the ball with be the first big test of Liverpool’s new back-line. There have been 34 goals in their combined 10 matches this season; back the goals to continue for both sides on Tuesday night.

Inter Milan vs Tottenham
Both sides were expected to challenge for their domestic titles this season, however, both have already suffered two defeats in winnable fixtures. Inter have lost to Parma and Sassuolo, with Tottenham losing to Watford and Liverpool; Tuesday’s match now has added impetus for both sides to get back to winning ways. Spurs look leggy, and with rumours over Harry Kane’s fitness gaining momentum, Inter may use the San Siro atmosphere to give the North Londoners another tricky European evening. I can’t imagine there being more than a goal between these sides, with Spurs settling for a point, if available.

Real Madrid v Roma
Roma have gotten off to a sticky start in this season’s Serie A, dropping points against Atalanta, Milan and Chievo. Last season’s Champions League heroics will live long in the memory of I Giallorossi with Eusebio Di Francesco tasked with repeating last season’s semi-final adventure. They’ve giant killed in the past (notably last season’s 3-0 victory over Barcelona), however, Real Madrid away in the group stage is a tough assignment. Under and Faraone will have to pressure the Madrid wing backs or it could be over quickly for the Italians; despite Madrid looking human this past weekend against Bilbao. Madrid haven’t lost a home CL group fixture since 2009. Pato and Pirlo were enough to get Milan over the line that day, however, don’t expect similar heroics from Roma.

Young Boys v Man Utd
Man United look to be singing from the same hymn sheet after back-to-back away wins against Burnley and Watford. They travel to Bern to face the Swiss champions in a possible banana-skin fixture for Jose’s reds. If United don’t kill the game early on Wednesday, Young Boys will gather momentum and chances against a still fragile United defence. Backing both teams to score here shows great value, in a fixture where the bookies are possibly anticipating a dull Mourinho away win.

Monaco v Atletico Madrid
Monaco are struggling in Ligue 1. As PSG look set to waltz to the title once again, Leonardo Jardim’s men have not won since the opening day of the season, racking up just five points out of a possible fifteen. Just seven goals have been scored in these fixtures, and with Atletico’s defence still proving to be water tight, the French hosts will struggle to make an impact against Simeone’s side. The only real concern for the visitors is their current injury crisis. Arias, Vitolo, Kalinic, Savic and Correa have all had injury concerns this past week, however, their charismatic manager has insisted he is enjoying the challenge of rotation. Monaco’s start to the season may go from bad to worse this week, with Diego Costa and Antoine Griezmann running riot at the Stade Louis II.
