Match Analysis

Chelsea vs Man United, Stamford Bridge

Saturday 20th October, Kick-off: 12:30

Key stats:

– Chelsea have won their last two meetings at Stamford Bridge 1-0

– Both teams have scored once in their last five

– Man United have scored two goals in both their league away wins this campaign

– Chelsea are still unbeaten in the league after eight matches; gaining 20 points

– The away side haven’t won this fixture since Chelsea did in 2013

– Over 2.5 goals in three of the last 14 meetings

Analysis:

This is another big test for Sarri’s Chelsea. Despite Man United struggling for form in recent weeks, Mourinho will return to Stamford Bridge with a plan to stifle the free-flowing Blues thriving under the freedom of Eden Hazard.

Hazard is the league’s top goalscorer having found the net seven times in eight fixtures; sealing him the most recent player of the month award. With 14 goals already being conceded this season in the league, United will be wary of the Belgian’s threat down the left flank.

In United’s three defeats in the league so far, they have conceded three times on each occasion. With Chelsea already scoring ten times at the Bridge this season, Mourinho may opt to play a deeper lying midfield, potentially man marking Jorginho in an attempt to quash Chelsea’s rhythm.

The Blues have got the better of this fixture at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea haven’t conceded in the last three meetings in West London, winning by an aggregate of 6-0.

Pressure is still building on Mourinho despite his Houdini efforts against Newcastle a fortnight ago. A heavy defeat by Chelsea will underline the frailties at the club; something the hosts will be keen to inflict on their former manager.

With Nemanja Matic a doubt due to injury, Chelsea’s midfield may relish the chance to play against either Fellaini, Fred, or both.

With Liverpool and Man City in relatively comfortable fixtures this weekend, Chelsea will feel the pressure of Saturday morning’s test, however, are expected to pass.
