Match Analysis

Everton vs Crystal Palace, Goodison Park

Sunday 21st October, Kick-off: 16:00

Key stats:

– Four goals in both fixtures last season

– Crystal Palace with one win in last eight meetings

– Everton with back-to-back wins coming into this fixture

– Crystal Palace with just five goals this season; second last in the Premier League

– Over 2.5 goals in all three of Everton’s wins this season

Analysis:

Everton are beginning to look like the side we expected of them this season. Back-to-back wins against Leicester and Fulham have seen them up to eleventh in the league, as they look to turn the screw in their charge towards the top six.

Palace are a strange team. They look incredibly hard to break down at times under the tactical reign of Roy Hodgson, however, with a reliance on Wilfried Zaha to find the net at the other end, the South London side struggle for positive results.

Zaha has scored 60% of Palace’s goals this season, and with all of Palace’s goals coming away from home they’ll relish their trip away from Selhurst Park.

Richarlison has been Everton’s standout player. Since signing in the summer, the Brazilian has scored four goals for the Toffees, despite suffering a suspension due to an early season red card.

Everton have provided bags of entertainment in their Premier League fixtures so far this season. Six of their eight matches have included over 2.5 goals, with both teams scoring in, also, six out of eight. Palace, on the other hand, have struggled in the entertainment ranks. Six of their eight matches have finished in under 2.5 goals, creating a real clash of form on Sunday afternoon.

Despite struggling to find the net for Palace, the omission of Christian Benteke will be a miss for the visitor’s attacking threat. The Belgian’s hold up play is crucial for bringing the wingers into the attacks; Connor Wickham may be tasked with filling the void on Sunday after lengthy spell out.

This fixture seems made for Everton to flex their muscles live on a TV spot, with Palace showing their lack in depth.
