CHAMPIONS LEAGUE BETTING TIPS – WEEK 3 – 23rd OCTOBER – 24th OCTOBER, 2018
The following are betting tips for selected fixtures from week 3 of the Champions League, covering matches taking place between the 23rd October and 24th October, 2018.
Real Madrid vs Plzen
A wobble turned into a blip. A blip has now turned into a full-blown crisis at Madrid. Their home loss to Levante saw Los Blancos notch up a record dry-patch in front of goal, before Marcelo rustled up the smallest of consolation prizes as they lost 2-1 at the Bernabeu. The Czech champions, Plzen, arrive in much better form, however will still be reeling from their 5-0 away loss to Roma in their last dip into the Champions League pool. Madrid – and Lopetegui especially – need this kind of fixture to relieve them of their La Liga woes. If Madrid are fearless and play with the shackles off, this could get heavy – a much needed turning point in their season.

Ajax vs Benfica
Both sides are very much in the conversation of Group E, with a stumbling Bayern Munich being dragged into a three-way battle. Both are unbeaten in their last five matches, however, Ajax have found their shooting boots. 19 goals in those five games have allowed the Dutch side to cling onto PSV’s coattails in the Eredivisie, whereas Benfica sit joint-top in Portugal with Braga. This is Ajax’s game to lose. It’s a step up for both sides in comparison to week-in-week-out league fixtures; one that I expect this exciting Ajax side to revel in.

PSG vs Napoli
One of the standout ties in all of European football this week; Napoli’s Ancelotti reign faces another huge test at the home of the French champions. Napoli currently top Group C after beating Liverpool in Naples, however, their draw away to Red Star may come back to bite them when we reach the business end. PSG have scored five or more in their last three matches. Despite this, Neymar et al. still look slightly puzzled when presented with a step up in opposition. Napoli have already failed three tests away from home this season; despite their attractive style, expect PSG’s firepower to prove too deadly when it counts.

Dortmund vs Atletico
Something has to budge in Group A. Two wins from two in both of Dortmund and Atleti’s first group matches see them hold a six point lead over Club Brugge and Monaco; a win for either this week would all but secure a spot in the last 16. Dortmund are one of the most exciting teams in Europe at the moment. They’ve scored four goals in each of their last four domestic matches, and with wins away at Leverkusen and Stuttgart, the league leaders are looking imperious. Atletico have stumbled through their opening league matches, but are always hard to beat. Dortmund’s 27 goals in eight league matches should translate to the Champions League, but the Spanish side may restrict them to one or two.

Shakhtar vs Man City
City left it late against Hoffenheim to get their first Champions League win of the season; a trip to Shakhtar is well within their skillset to escape with all three points. The Ukrainian side have lost just three times in the previous 27 matches, however, Pep and his side will offer a different proposition than the bulk of the Ukrainian UPL. With KDB and Mendy back in action, City should have a full squad at their disposal. Expect the Premier League champions to flex their muscles in Donetsk.
