Match Analysis

Milan vs Genoa, San Siro
Wednesday 31st October, Kick-off: 19:30

Key stats:

– Both teams haven’t scored in their last four meetings

– Milan with 16 wins in their 32 matches played (50%)

– Under 2.5 goals scored in the last three meetings

– Genoa have won four of the last eight meetings

– Both teams have scored in eight of Milan’s nine league matches

– Genoa without a win in their last three

Analysis:

With this fixture being postponed from earlier in the season after the tragic events in Genoa, both sides have made positive starts to their Serie A campaigns after a turbulent beginning.

After last weekend’s loss to their bitter rivals Inter in the Milan derby, the Rossoneri bounced back in style getting the better of Sampdoria in a five-goal thriller. With Cutrone, Higuain and Suso all getting on the scoresheet, Gattuso eased some of the pressure coming his way as Milan rose to fifth in the Serie A table.

A change in system has seen the side flourish. Reverting to a 4-4-2 with Higuain and Cutrone leading the line has seen Milan look more fluid in attack; a change forced having lost two on the bounce to Inter and Real Betis.

Genoa have still got a positive record in the league. With four wins, two draws and three losses, I Rossoblu are going about their business quietly. They finished twelfth last season, with their form still dipping after a sixth placed finish in 2015.

With Ivan Juric at the helm, the Liguria based side are still floating around mid-table, however, their defensive record so far this season will be of concern.

With seventeen goals conceded in their nine matches, Milan’s strong goal threat will be confident in breaking down the Genoa wall, especially with the fixture being played at the San Siro.

Milan have scored the joint-second most goals this season – only behind Juventus (who have played a game more).

Milan’s threat in front of goal should be strong enough to negate the challenge of Genoa. This season’s results lead us to believe that the away team will probably score, but not have enough to overcome the home side.
