Analysis:

After Ronaldo returned to Old Trafford a fortnight ago, we do it all again as Mourinho’s United make the trip to Turin to face the Old Lady.

Juventus have made a blistering start to this season. With a six point cushion at the top of Serie A, and a five point cushion at the top of their Champions League group, Allegri has juggled his talented squad on all fronts as they look to fill their trophy cabinet at the end of the campaign.

After dominating the Scudetto for the past seven years, the Champions League trophy is now highest on the wanted list for Juve. With heartbreak in the latter rounds over the past few seasons, the Ronaldo effect looks likely to push them that step further as they look to seal their place in the knockout stages with a win over Man United.

At Old Trafford they dominated possession with United struggling to get a foot-hold in the game. After a few narrow escapes in the second half, Juventus sealed the win with relative ease, as Mourinho ran out of ideas to penetrate this experienced defence.

The key to United getting a positive result on Wednesday will be the pace and movement of Anthony Martial. The Frenchman has hit a purple patch of form in recent weeks, scoring five in his last five outings. With rapid countering after a Juventus press, United’s best chance of stealing a goal is through Martial.

If Lukaku starts, it’s important he doesn’t become isolated. Using the Belgian as a target man didn’t work as intended against the Juventus defence; whether he drops deeper to link play to the pacey wingers is yet to be seen.

It seems like United will do well to score in Turin; this doesn’t bode well for their chances of a positive result. Juventus look fairly unstoppable, and should be able to cruise to a comfortable victory and securing top spot in the group.
