Match Analysis

Chelsea vs PAOK, Stamford Bridge
Thursday 29th November, Kick-off: 20:00

Key stats:

– Chelsea lost their first game of the season last weekend against Tottenham

– Chelsea have scored six goals in four Europa League matches, winning all four

– PAOK are on a winning run of three matches in all competitions

– PAOK with three points in Group L after winning 4-1 away in BATE

– Chelsea won 1-0 in Greece in the opening match of the group

Analysis:

Chelsea hit a Spurs shaped brick wall at the weekend. Falling 3-1 at Wembley Stadium, Sarri’s side looked tired, lumbered and nervous in one of their biggest tests of the season. Dominating the ball against weaker opposition has flattered Sarri’s tactics, with the step up in class highlighting the lack of plan B from the Italian.

There will be heavy rotation from Chelsea on Thursday. Top of the league with six points separating themselves and Vidi, Chelsea are cantering to the top spot in their group. The likes of Loftus-Cheek, Barkley, Giroud, Zappacosta, Cahill and Christensen will all be expected to start as the fresher legs look to impress against the Greek side.

It will be a lively atmosphere at the Bridge. PAOK’s travelling supporters will be in fine voice as they look to cause a seismic upset in West London.

PAOK have looked solid in their last three matches. They’ve scored two goals in all three, and the visitors will be relying on their Serbian striker Aleksandar Prijovic to add to his seven strikes so far this campaign.

The truth is, this is the type of side that “Sarri-ball” will work perfectly against. A side looking for chances on the counter without much possession of the ball. Chelsea are likely to have around 70% of the ball on Thursday with their metronomic midfield controlling the play, with chances being created constantly for their dangerous front three.

What we have here is a Chelsea side looking to apologise to their fans for Saturday’s derby loss, along with a group of players looking keen to impress. Expect goals at the Bridge, with Chelsea stretching their legs at the top of their group.
