Midweek Tip Sheet
The following are our best football betting tips from the selected fixtures in the English Premier League, The Championship and across Europes Major leagues, covering matches taking place between the 8th January and 11th January.
English League Cup | Man City vs Burton
Burton recorded a 4-0 away win against Rochdale in League One in their last outing; the trip to the Etihad on Wednesday will be an incomparable challenge. City faced similarly lower ranked opposition at this stage last season, as they cantered past Bristol City wth ease. Pep will rotate his team of stars, but the quality on show will still be abundant. City’s wobble is over after beating Liverpool 2-1 in the league and you can imagine they will want to kill this tie in the first leg before a trip to Burton in a fortnight’s time. Jesus, Foden, Garcia and Zinchenko are just some of the names expected to feature for the cup holders. They have more than enough quality to win at a canter.

French League Cup | Monaco vs Rennes
Despite small improvements under the reign of Thierry Henry, Monaco are still struggling to string a run of positive results together. A League Cup quarter-final against Rennes will provide a welcome break from the toils of Ligue 1, as they swim against a relegation tide. Rennes have won five matches back-to-back and will be confident in reaching the semis for the second year running. Monaco’s focus is purely on survival; Rennes will be able to pounce. Rennes won this away fixture 2-1 in the league last October.

French League Cup | PSG vs Guingamp
PSG have won the last five French League Cups; don’t expect their side littered with elite talent to give up their reign in a home fixture against Guingamp. The visitors sit rock bottom of Ligue 1, having registered only two victories in their 18 outings. A penalties win over Nice saw them into the quarters, however, even a weakened PSG side will be able to dispatch of the low scoring visitors. They are averaging under one goal a game; PSG are averaging at around 3 per game. The handicap market is worth looking at here.
PSG -2 handicap @ 1.55 with Bet 365
Copa del Rey | Bilbao vs Sevilla
Bilbao have racked up only half of the points Sevilla have managed so far in La Liga. Thursday’s Copa del Rey fixture is a chance for Sevilla to end a run of five consecutive matches between these two where the home side has got the victory. These sides haven’t met since March last year when Sevilla recorded a 2-0 win, and with the visitors only tasting defeat five times in 28 outings, it’s easy to argue the away win. Bilbao host Sevilla, again, in the league the following weekend; you could argue this fixture is of less importance for the hosts.

Copa del Rey | Betis vs Real Sociedad
14 wins for Betis, 12 draws and 13 wins for Sociedad; you’ll struggle to find a more balanced fixture in Spanish football after 39 matches played. This time, these two meet in the round of 16 in the Copa del Rey, with Betis looking to stamp their authority after a good start to their La Liga season. Betis are sixth, with a balanced record consisting of 21 goals scored and conceded. Sociedad are trailing the hosts by just four points; their weekend win away at Madrid will give them the confidence ahead of this trip to Betis.

Copa del Rey | Levante vs Barcelona
Barcelona’s 2-1 away win at Getafe this past weekend allowed them to open up a five point gap at the top of the league, despite already dropping fourteen points. Attention turns to the Copa this week with an out of form Levante hosting the 30-times winners of the competition. Levante won this fixture in astonishing circumstances last season in a 5-4 thriller. They’ve since lost 5-0 to the Catalans only three weeks ago, with an away win expected on Thursday. There have been over 2.5 goals in 8 of their last nine meetings.

Asian Cup | Japan vs Turkmenistan
Japan’s form has remained consistent since their World Cup exit in the summer. Four wins and a draw set them up nicely for the Asian Cup, recording wins over the likes of Costa Rica, Panama, Uruguay and Kyrgyzstan. Turkmenistan can also boast a run of good form. Wins over Afghanistan, Singapore and Chinese Taipei saw them score twice in each; it does, however, highlight their level of quality with all of these wins being tightly contested. These two are joined in their Asian Cup group by Oman and Uzbekistan, with Japan’s Samurai Blue the clear favourite. This is the first meeting between these two nations.
Japan to win and both sides not to score
Over 3.5 goals @ 2.09 with Marathon Bet
The Championship | Leeds vs Derby
Friday night’s Championship action comes from Elland Road, as the league leaders host one of the most exciting sides in the division. Leeds are coming into this fixture off the back of three defeats in a row; two in the league and one in the FA Cup to QPR. Derby are continuing to impress under Frank Lampard, and often turn it on in the bigger fixtures. Leeds won this one 4-1 at Pride Park back in August, however, Lampard has a better understanding of his side coming into Friday’s fixture. The Rams have won five league fixtures on the road this campaign, and will be positive about Friday’s trip. A draw, arguably, would suit both.
