Europa League – Betting Tips – Week 1

Europa League Betting Tips – Group Stage, Week 1 –  20th September , 2018

The following are betting tips for selected fixtures from week 1 of the group stage of the Europa League, covering matches taking place on the 20th September, 2018.

PAOK v Chelsea

The Blues can expect a hostile atmosphere in Greece on Thursday, as ‘Sarriball’ takes to life in the Europa League. Chelsea won this competition the last time they competed in it and are the shortest price of 6.50 to repeat this feat in 2018-19. With the Italian head coach unlikely to rotate too much from the side that put four past Cardiff, Chelsea’s free-flowing possession based football should be well suited to the challenge of PAOK. Even if Hazard is rested, Pedro and Willian are both in goalscoring form, capable of providing either Morata or Giroud with a plethora of goalscoring chances.

Villarreal v Rangers

This will be a real step up in class for Steven Gerrard’s Rangers side. The Glasgow side have looked good at the start of this season, but without quality in depth within the squad, a trip to Estadio de la Ceramica will be a daunting one. The hosts haven’t started strongly in La Liga, but with a win at the weekend against Leganes, El Submarino Amarillo’s fortunes may be on the turn. Saying that, they have only scored three times in four fixtures, with the under 2.5 goals market screaming out here.

Dudelange v AC Milan

Dudelange are creating history this season becoming the first side from Luxembourg to compete in the group stage of the Champions League or Europa League: this stat alone labels them as potential cannon-fodder in a competitive Group F. Milan’s rotation policy will impact where the value is in this fixture, however, with Dudelange BOTTOM of their league currently after losing two of their first three fixtures, it may only take a B-side from Gattuso to bring the points home to Milan. If we are to assume the home side won’t score, backing under 3.5 goals at 1.66 shows value, with Milan likely to take their foot off the gas in Luxembourg.

Arsenal v Vorskla

Arsenal look like they will score a lot of goals this season; the problem is we are yet to see how seriously Emery will take the Europa League. Fairly seriously, I would think, with momentum playing a huge role to confidence this early in the season. Vorskla finished third in the Ukrainian Premier League last season having scored only 65 goals in 54 matches; at just over one a game it is unlikely they will breach the new-look Arsenal defence on Thursday. Little value can be found in the BTTS or under/over goals market, however, 3-0 seems a likely scoreline at the Emirates. Have a punt at 12.00.

Celtic v Rosenborg

Celtic aren’t having it all their way in the Scottish Premiership so far. Three wins, a draw and a loss has seen them slip behind Hearts by five points, level with Livingston. The Europa League hasn’t been particularly kind to the The Hoops in recent years, however, Rosenborg have their own worries. Sitting behind Brann in the Norwegian Eliteserien, Rosenborg are in danger of losing their league crown for the first time in four years; perhaps this will be a reason for them to take their eye off the ball in the Europa League. This being said, Celtic aren’t scoring enough goals this season, and may struggle to break down an unadventurous Rosenborg outfit.
