The Championship – Betting Tips

The Championship Betting Tips – 28th September – 1st October, 2018

The following are betting tips for selected fixtures in The Championship, covering matches taking place between the 28th September and 1st October 2018

Sheffield Wednesday vs Leeds

Leeds stumbled last weekend at home to Birmingham; unquestionably the shock of the week. This being said, we all know the unpredictability of the Championship. Sheffield Wednesday will prove a similarly tough assignment after losing just one of their last five fixtures. Wednesday won both fixtures last season, however, Bielsa’s Leeds have the character to bounce back as they look to keep a grip on the Championship lead. Combined, these sides have scored 33 goals this season.

Swansea vs QPR

QPR’s undefeated run came to an end at the hands of Norwich last weekend, with Swansea in need of a positive result as well! The Swans have won one of their last five, taking just five points in the process. Goals have been the Welsh sides’ problem with just seven strikes in nine games: the joint second lowest in the league. QPR’s only away win came at Bolton, however, McClaren will arrive in Wales with a rested side and the chance of a positive result. QPR’s defence has shown real frailties, but can Swansea punish it? The value lies in a draw.

Brentford vs Reading

Brentford have been playing some of the best football in the Championship so far this season; how they react after losses to Derby and Arsenal this week will be the truest test of their character and credentials so far. It doesn’t get much easier than a home tie against Reading. The Royals sit in twentieth with just two wins in their nine fixtures, however, with 12 goals scored they will still pose a threat going forward in West London. Brentford should have enough to negate their threat, with a return to winning ways with the help of Neal Maupay.

Rotherham vs Stoke

Both sides sit on nine points in the lower echelons of the Championship. This was expected from the Millers, but certainly not the Potters, as Stoke look to bounce back into the Premier League at the first time of asking. Stoke’s biggest problem has been in defence; with 16 goals conceded, the visitors have the joint worst defensive record in the league. Rotherham, however, have only scored six, and may struggle to keep Stoke out at the other end. Rotherham’s three wins this season have come in 1-0 home thrashings… Stoke will be wary of this precedent set.

Blackburn vs Nottingham Forest

Forest’s run in the League Cup has taken some of the attention off their average league form; winning 33% of their fixtures so far wasn’t the plan for Karanka’s title bid. This being said, they have just recorded back-to-back victories against Rotherham and Sheffield Wednesday; they will be tested further at Ewood Park. Blackburn have also recorded 14 points, however, their home form is a concern for Tony Mowbray. I can’t see more than a goal between these two sides, with the draw showing the most vale between two sides that have drawn five games each this season: the joint second most in the Championship.
