Champions League – Betting Tips – Week 2

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE BETTING TIPS – WEEK 2 – 2ND OCTOBER – 3RD OCTOBER, 2018

The following are betting tips for selected fixtures from week 2 of the Champions League, covering matches taking place between the 2nd October and 3rd October, 2018.

Man United vs Valencia

United haven’t won a match since their last outing in the Champions League. That came in a 3-0 win away at Young Boys; Valencia are sure to prove a tougher challenge. The Spanish side lost 2-0 at home to Juventus in their first CL match, with an importance placed on this trip to Manchester to get a positive result. United have looked tentative at home and – despite Valencia’s average start to the season – will feel under pressure from Los Che. This fixture, arguably, pits together two of the most underperforming sides in Europe so far this season. Don’t expect too many goals, with a nervy start playing into the visitor’s hands.

Hoffenheim vs Man City

City scored nine goals on their travels in the Champions League group stages last year, and with Hoffenheim’s defence already looking vulnerable in the competition, Guardiola may have some joy on his return to Germany. The hosts sit 12th in the Bundesliga with just two wins to their name in six outings; a vibrant City attack are sure to find the net on Tuesday evening.

Bayern Munich vs Ajax

Ajax are huge underdogs in this fixture, however, off the back of a 2-0 loss against Hertha Berlin at the weekend, perhaps it’s time for the Bayern wheels to come off? Okay, perhaps not all four wheels, but with Ajax scoring 15 goals in their last five matches, the visitors may have the belief to steal a point. There is no value in backing the hosts, so perhaps a double chance stake on Ajax could prove profitable at full-time. Bayern may have won their last 12 group stage fixtures in this competition, but all good things must come to an end? Ajax have the belief.

Tottenham vs Barcelona

Tottenham got back to winning ways against Huddersfield this weekend; more importantly, Harry Kane got back to scoring ways. The England captain scored a brace in a 2-0 win, and will be relied upon against a Barcelona side licking their wounds. Barca have gone three league games without a win, losing one and drawing two; perhaps this European trip to Wembley will prove a welcome distraction for the Catalans. Eriksen, Dembele and Vertonghen all face late fitness tests for the home side, however, Spurs do possess strength in midfield and will be a constant physical threat in winning the ball and supplying Kane. Expect an end-to-end game, with both sides finding the net early.

Napoli vs Liverpool

The Carlo Ancelotti experiment is working well in Naples; that was until this past weekend’s 3-1 loss to the unblemished Juventus. Their “sluggish” performance has angered the Italian coach with them now trailing the Scudetto holders by six points. Liverpool escaped Stamford Bridge with a point after an incredible goal from Daniel Sturridge; despite this, the Englishman will struggle to break into the Mane-Firmino-Salah front three. Goals, high press and fast attacks underpin both Napoli and Liverpool’s style of play. With both dangerous when the other side has the ball, expect plenty of chances at the San Paolo. Napoli were thrashed 5-0 by Liverpool in pre-season; expect the same number of goals, but more evenly spread!
