The following are betting tips for selected fixtures from week 1 of the group stage of the Europa League, covering matches taking place on the 20th September, 2018.
Chelsea vs Vidi
This should be a breeze for Sarri’s Chelsea. The Blues’ new style of possession football will restrict the Hungarian’s side on the ball to around a 25% share; even with squad rotation Chelsea’s superiority will shine through. Vidi lost to BATE 2-0 in match day one, and if this wasn’t a sign of their positioning in this year’s Europa League, Thursday night’s result will be.

Milan vs Olympiakos
Milan are finding flashes of form this season, but if Gonzalo Higuain’s fitness is still a concern going into Thursday, Fabio Borini will have a point to prove against their Greek opponents. Greek sides don’t tend to travel well in European competitions and with things slowly beginning to gel for the Rossoneri, expect Gattuso to get a positive result on Thursday. Despite a mixed start to the season, Milan are scoring goals. Expect them to put at least two past Olympiakos.

Qarabag vs Arsenal
Chelsea ripped Qarabag apart last season in the Champions League; Arsenal’s free-flowing attacking style may allow a similar result in this season’s Europa League. Arsenal are the form side in the Premier League winning their last five, and with Emery still opting to play a strong eleven against Vorskla a fortnight ago, the Gunners will have more than enough quality to blow away their Azerbaijani opponents. Danny Welbeck seems to thrive when given a chance.

Rangers vs Rapid Vienna
This is arguably Rangers’ easiest tie in a competitive Group G. Easy perhaps isn’t the right word; Rapid Vienna showed their maturity a fortnight ago with a 2-0 home win against Spartak Moscow, and with Rangers hitting a Livingston sized speed bump in the league at the weekend, Steven Gerrard’s side may crumble on Thursday. Ibrox will be pumping, however, a sturdy Austrian defence may prove hard to penetrate.

Salzburg vs Celtic
A 1-0 win at home to Rosenborg has enabled Celtic to arrive in Salzburg with realistic expectations. The hosts beat RB Leipzig 3-2 away from home in the opening matchday, with their attacking threat apparent in their league form as well; fifteen goals in their last four matches is a concern for Brendan Rogers. Celtic don’t look overly settled this season and haven’t come up against a side close to the talent of Salzburg. This could be a tricky night in Austria for the Hoops.
