Midweek Tip Sheet, 15th January 2019 | Football Betting Tips | Football Advisor

Midweek Tip Sheet

The following are our best football betting tips from the selected fixtures in the English Premier League, The Championship and across Europes Major leagues, covering matches taking place between the 8th January and 11th January.

FA Cup | Blackburn vs Newcastle

Blackburn’s topsy-turvy season in the Championship shows their unpredictability on a week-to-week basis; this being said, they start Tuesday’s FA Cup replay with Newcastle as favourites. A 1-1 draw at St. James’ Park sets this return fixture up nicely for Blackburn to make full use of home advantage. It’s hard to position Benitez’s hunger for the FA Cup with a heavily rotated side expected again; the lack of funding in his squad forces a focus on Premier League survival. Rovers are coming off the back of a good win at The Den and should progress into the fourth round against Watford.

FA Cup | Luton vs Sheff. Wednesday

Luton are flying in League One having suffered just four defeats in their 27 outings. They remain unbeaten in the cup, also, with a goalless draw at Hillsborough allowing a replay at Kenilworth Road on Tuesday. Wednesday are without a win in their last four outings and may struggle against a vibrant Luton. The prize is a trip to Stamford Bridge to play Chelsea; Luton’s finances will benefit greatly if they can manage to progress. Wednesday’s season could be defined by a fourth round trip to West London, so it’s hard to see them taking Luton too lightly. There isn’t much between these two sides, with extra-time and penalties looking likely. Both sides have been involved in eight league draws this season.

FA Cup | Stoke vs Shrewsbury

Stoke are struggling again in the Championship. Without a win in 2019, or in their last five outings, the Potters could feed off some positivity in the cup. The Shrews have similarly bad form in League One and will see this trip to the Bet365 Stadium as a free-hit. Benik Afobe is Stoke’s leading scorer with seven in the league; a stark reminder of their struggles in front of goal following relegation last season. Peter Crouch got them out of trouble with a late equaliser in the match in Shropshire; the ex-England international may force a rare start on Tuesday. Stoke should have too much for the visitors as they look to kick-start their season, again

FA Cup | Southampton vs Derby

Derby need a response after a poor outing at Elland Road on Friday night. Struggling to keep hold of the ball or put the hosts under any sort of pressure, Lampard will be wary coming into a match against superior Premier League opposition. Southampton and Hassenhuttl are firmly concentrating on survival. A crucial win away at Leicester with 10-men showed their grit in grinding out a result – something that was missing in 2018. Derby will consider a league finish outside of the top six a failure, and with a positive League Cup run already this season, Lampard may take his eye off the FA Cup ball. This one looks like a “who doesn’t want it, least” kind of fixture. It may struggle to get going.

French Ligue 1 | Monaco vs Nice

Monaco are now five points off of guaranteed safety in Ligue 1, as concerns continue to grow around the Stade Louis II stadium. Henry is looking to make movements in the transfer window in an attempt to save a woeful season in the French top tier; the arrival of Cesc Fabregas is a fantastic coup for Les Monegasques in their pursuit of goals. 16 goals in 18 games is the third lowest in the league and prime reason for Monaco’s decline; this being said, Wednesday’s visitors Nice have scored the second least with 14 – it’s remarkable that they sit sixth in the league. We can’t ignore the unders market here in a clash between two shy strike forces. Monaco can’t be written off yet this season, with January’s movements crucial for their survival.

French Ligue 1 | St Etienne vs Marseille

Saint Etienne’s climb up the Ligue 1 ladder is gathering serious pace as they continue to knock on the door of a Champions League spot. Currently in fourth, their back-to-back wins against two sides in the bottom three have shot them into contention, with Wednesday’s visitors, Marseille, trailing by six points. Marseille have two games in hand on a lot of the sides above them, however, after losing five away games already this season their vulnerability is evident. A win for either would prove a real statement of intent for the remainder of the season; typically, this usually leads to a share of the spoils.

Spanish Copa Del Rey | Leganes vs Real Madrid

A 3-0 advantage for Madrid from the opening leg sets this fixture up in Leganes nicely for the visitors. This isn’t to say Madrid haven’t struggled on the road this season. Losses to Eibar, Alaves, CSKA, Sevilla and Barcelona have all had their affect; you’d struggle to convince yourself that they could throw away a 3-0 lead, however. Leganes are bobbing above the relegation zone in La Liga with a focus purely on survival. They may limit Madrid’s chances on Wednesday, but not enough to make the tie competitive.
