Midweek Tip Sheet, 22nd January 2019 | Football Betting Tips | Football Advisor

Midweek Tip Sheet

The following are our best football betting tips from the selected fixtures in the English Premier League, The Championship and across Europes Major leagues, covering matches taking place between the 22nd January and 24th January.

League One | Plymouth vs Walsall

Three wins on the spin have seen Plymouth rise from the ashes in League One, with certain relegation looking likely just a fortnight ago. 2019 has been promising for Argyle and they now sit level with Oxford, teetering off the edge of the bottom four. Walsall aren’t in the best form and should struggle on their trip to the Bescot Stadium. Freddie Ladapo’s 12 league goals have been crucial for Plymouth’s recent climb; the 25-year-old is primed to strike again on Tuesday.

French Cup | Monaco vs Metz

It’s French Cup time and Henry is looking to advance his Monaco side past Metz – the current leaders of Ligue 2. The visitors have lost just four times this season and are conceding around 0.7 goals a match; Monaco’s lack of adventure could play into their hands. Monaco have won three of their 21 league matches this season and are still struggling for confidence; if anything, a Coupe de France run may prove a distraction.

Spanish Copa Del Rey | Getafe vs Valencia

This first leg Copa del Rey quarter-final looks finely poised. Only five points separate both teams in the league, with Getafe having a better season in sixth. The hosts have the second best defence in the league and will look to strangle the away threat at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez. The price for a home win is too tempting to turn down, with even a narrow defeat not the end of the world for Valencia who will fancy their chances on home turf.

Scottish Premiership | Celtic vs St Mirren

The Scottish Premiership is back this midweek as we dip back into one of the most exciting title races across Europe. Three points separate the top four, with Celtic still leading the pack on 42 points; their loss to Rangers over the festive period will have asked questions over Rogers’ side coming into 2019. St Mirren, on paper, is a nice easy fixture to ease back into the league against. They’ve won three times in their 21 league matches and average scoring under a goal a game. Celtic need to make a statement here.

Scottish Premiership | Kilmarnock vs Rangers

Rangers need to keep Celtic on the ropes if they are to press this title race the whole distance. Gerrard’s side sit level on points with their rivals having played a game more; they sit just one ahead of Wednesday’s hosts Kilmarnock in the stand out tie of the match day. Rangers won this fixture 3-1 on away turf in the League Cup last August, however, Killy’s form suggests this will be a lot closer. A draw looks the best value – five of the last eleven have been tied. The home win is a huge price for a small stake – probably due to prolific striker Greg Stewart moving to Aberdeen.

League Cup | Burton vs Man City

The most interesting aspect of this match will be Pep’s team selection for a fixture that they currently lead 9-0. Interestingly, City’s U21s are in the quarter-finals of the EFL Trophy on Tuesday, so the rotation may not be as far reaching as usual. Burton are playing for pride after being humiliated at the Etihad; the only value bet worth looking at is backing Burton to find the net – they are more than capable on home turf against a second/third string City defence.

French Cup | PSG vs Strasbourg

PSG’s hold over this trophy doesn’t appear to be relenting any time soon. They’ve won the last four, and look imperious once again this season. Their recent League Cup loss at home to Guingamp, however, may reside in the back of their minds as they host a confident Strasbourg outfit. The visitors are running well in the league having won their last three on the bounce – only PSG can match that! Strasbourg got a home draw against the holder in the league but will struggle on away turf – PSG aren’t conceding many, either.

Spanish Copa Del Rey | Real Madrid vs Girona

Madrid are starting to look like themselves again, and despite a tricky start to the season Solari will be fully focused on progressing in the Copa. Girona can’t seem to win matches – they have failed to take three points from any of their last eight matches – however, positives can be taken by the fact that they have only failed to score twice in those eight. Madrid will want to kill this tie as early as possible. Madrid have scored 10 goals in the last two meetings between these two – they should be able to get an advantage to take into the second leg at a canter.
