I Don’t Cry Any More – A Roundup To Emotional Betting

I'm more likely to cry at an episode of Eastenders, than I am my betting, nowadays!

It probably took me around 4 years to master the art of removing emotion from my betting.

My, oh, my, has it made a difference!

Just last week, I had 14 losing bets in a row.

I generally bet to £100 stakes and that's £1,400 down the drain. However, after a nice little touch in the 15:10 Sedgefield, on Thursday afternoon, with an 11/1 winner (BSP of 13.73) and some clever manipulation of the market, I drew a profit of around £1,500 from that bet. Couple that, with a few odds on winners and I was back in the game!

I'm not here to brag but to clearly state a point.

Having a drawn down of that size (any bank size will do that to your emotions. It could have been 14 quid if you're using a £300 bank.) will start to tickle your emotions. It's stressful and makes you start to doubt yourself.

How do your emotions react?

STOP LOSING MONEY and STOP PLACING ANY MORE BETS?

You'll ask yourself these questions or make these statements –

“What am I doing here?”

“It's a conspiracy, they know I've backed it and they've lost on purpose!”

“Why do I keep losing?”

“I'm shit at this, I need to revise what I'm doing”

“I'll blame everything else and not my own judgement”

And so on, and so on…

The thing is, if we keep allowing these negative thoughts to enter our heads, we WILL fail.

As long as you're confident in the logic of your selection process and have verified the past results, then you need to carry on.

You also need to be confident in your staking and bank size. We'll cover more on this in future articles but there's a good series on understanding this – HERE

As, of Wednesday, last week, if I'd let my emotions get in the way and wallowed in self-pity at my depreciated bank balance, I wouldn't have continued to bet. Therefore, I would have then have missed out on a big-priced winner, that brought me back into profit!

I've touched on this mindset in all of my previous articles.
